Why Wood Aren’t As Bad As You Think

A Guide to Wood Science

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Other products are put alongside wood for easy testing and study. The wood is checked against the other materials properties, performances, value, and work-ability. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. The wide range of products where wood can be used is just one of the many advantages that give wood an upper hand over other products. Once a tree has been cut down another can be planted in the same spot. The other merit is that a part of the harvested material is at the same time used as energy to produce the product.

The good appearance of your timber made structure cannot be guaranteed if protection of the timber is not done. Wooden structures have to be kept away from water and pests that eat through the wood. The water particles in the timber increase the rotting and the insects bore through the wood. There are many ways timber is treated among them being the ACQ in other words alkaline copper Quaternary. The protection of from this chemical is based on copper. As effective as this preservative, it has some downside to its use. It is a highly corrosive chemical that affects most metals that are used together with the wooden products. The concentration of the chemical that will be used to treat a piece of wood will depend on the where it is going to be used and the molecular structure of the wood. The concentration level of the chemical will be different for two pieces of wood where one is used above ground and the other close to a water body.

Another wood treating method that is fast being accepted is the use of copper metal. The use of this method is fast being accepted because it is not corroding the metal fasteners. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. In this process microscopic particles of solid copper metal are mixed in a liquid carrier and injected to the wood at high pressure. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. When this process is used to treat timber the timber properties are increased highly. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. Unlike other methods of treatment this method is not corrosive. The wood treated using this method last longer and is stronger.
